Eating in Los Angeles

My post is a day late, but just in time for the weekend! One of my favorite things to do in Los Angeles is to go out to eat. There are tons of great restaurants in the city, and here are five that I love to frequent!

The interior of A-Frame, the food is family style and the seating is communal!

1. A-Frame - This is my go-to place for dinner with my friends. The plates are meant to be shared family style, and pretty much everything on the menu is great. Also, make sure to save room for dessert because you'll want try their Banana Bacon Cream Pie!

2. Picca - I never tried Peruvian food until I moved to Los Angeles, and I've been hooked ever since! This is my new favorite Peruvian restaurant, with a slight Japanese influence. They also have a lounge upstairs, so if the restaurant is crowded you can asked to be seated upstairs where you can order from the full menu and have an eagle eye view of the dining room.

3. BLD - Best brunch in town! There is always a wait on the weekend, so be sure to go early. But if you are like me, and need a snack to tie you over after you've put your name down, take a walk over to Milk a couple blocks away for a pre-brunch treat.

4. Waterloo & City - This is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. Located next to A-Frame, this British Gastropub serves comfort food and delicious cocktails. In my opinion, it's the perfect meal. (They also have a killer prices during happy hour and late night.)

5. Spice Table - If you are an adventurous eater, I'd suggest Spice Table located in Downtown/Little Tokyo. This place is influenced by the traditional cuisines of Singapore and Vietnam, and the menu includes curries, satays of all sorts, headcheese and other more exotic eats.

It's no secret that we're major fans of Beyoncé. I mean, how can you not be? We never get tired of this video for "Why Don't You Love Me" from her 2010 album I Am Sasha Fierce. Beyoncé is an expert at channeling show stopping retro glamour. This lady is equal parts sex appeal, smarts and supreme talent. See for yourself.

We were honored and excited to be a part of Corey Lynn Calter 's Fall/Winter 2012 collection presentation during NYFW yesterday.

As you can in the images above, her inspiration was color and light and what a style spectacle the show proved to be. We wish we could have been there in person but our shoes were and we think they look amazing styled with her looks. What do you think?

The Watson Twins are a great singer-songwriting duo that began their musical journey in 2006. Ever since then, touting good fortune and the people they met along their way, they have transformed themselves into a musical group not to be missed.

According to their BIO, "their latest recording, NIGHT COVERS, is a collection of cover songs pulling from influences and favorites spanning the last five decades."

Music Friday - Jessie Baylin

We had the privilege of seeing Jessie Baylin perform live at The Hotel Cafe way back in the day when the line up was a bunch of unknowns and the crowd was slim. Performing in between Joshua Radin, Brett Dennen, Sara Bareilles and Joe Purdy; Jessie stuck out as one to watch and so we've followed her musical journey ever since.

Her new album, LITTLE SPARK, hit store shelves on Tuesday and above is a little sampler of all the amazingness that went into the making of it. She's quintessentially cool. Her sound is a throw back (as she mentions above) to the music greats of past decades. Seek out her story, get to know her music and you too will be on board.

A Los Angeles Winter

This has been my first winter back in California after a couple years, and it has been quite an easy transition compared to the snowy New England weather. It's a refreshing change not to be wearing the same snow boots every day this winter, and my go-to shoe this season has been the Bismuth Burlap heels in Black. I'm pretty sure these shoes will go with anything in my closet. I snapped this photo when I met up with a friend for a late night Pinkberry date. Eating frozen yogurt in January? Yes, it's possible in California!

Also did you notice my clutch? It was a gift from the girls over at Seychelles. It's made from the same fabric as the limited edition Helsinki boots!

first look: PINA by Wim Wenders

We've been waiting with baited breath for Wim Wender's film Pina to open in Los Angeles and the time finally arrived. A magnificent tribute to German neo-expressionist choreographer Pina Bausch, the film showcases interviews and performances by the original members of Pina's dance company. Pina became famous for creating a revolutionary form of dance known as Tanztheater, characterized by aggression, sensuality, longing and melancholy. In a tragic turn, Pina died unexpectedly two days before production on the film was set to begin, and this sense of sadness and loss comes through in the way the dancers speak of their beloved teacher. We can't even express how original and breathtaking this film is. Check out the trailer and find out when the film is playing in your city.

We are not strangers to the beauty combo of mustard and navy. In fact, as we go back through many of our looks and drafts, we seem to gravitate toward and continually promote it. Alas... here we go again.

This outfit, paired with our "must have" ALL DRESSED UP heels in mustard, is simple, classic and a perfect add or subtract starting point. All in all, (separately or all together), these pieces are perfect closet additions. What do you think?

Here in California, we don't often have to worry about heavy winter coats, but we always turn to a lightweight denim jacket as an essential fall and winter layering option. As you can see, all the girls in our office are fans of this look and there are so many ways to wear it: pair it with a vintage skirt, bright colored leggings, or a basic black and white ensemble. Every year when the holidays come around, we get in the mood for baking. Whether it be cookies, or scrumptious pies; we always have our expectations set high.

What we fail to remember is, we're not blessed with the ability to throw a couple things together and create a masterpiece; we need guidance and A LOT of it.

Artist Jeana Sohn does just that with her website Closet Visit, taking us into a world of beauty and inspiration. Founded in 2010, Jeana photographs the closets (and the things that go in them) of fashionable women all over Los Angeles. There are inspirational outfits, gorgeous designer pieces, amazing vintage finds, sparkling jewels, and fabulous shoes to be seen. Included with the beautiful photos are interviews about style, favorites, and some fashion advice. Jeana Sohn along with Claire Cottrell also introduced two short films this year for Closet Visit that are simply breathtaking. Our Helsinki boots, designed through a collaboration with Finnish designer Ivana Helsinki, walked the runway during NYFW in February. Now they are ready to be worn among the masses.

Recently our Queen Bee at Seychelles, Sari traveled back to her hometown of Helsinki, Finland and was able to capture our amazing boots featured in Ivana's pop up shop in the city centre.

Today we're lauding The Civil Wars. To say we love this band is simply not enough. We had the privilege of seeing them live this past weekend and the show far surpassed our expectations.

Every once in awhile, you hear, see or experience something that you know is extraordinary. The Civil Wars, live in concert, was definitely one of those defining moments.

Having sung together now for only 3 years after meeting in a song writing session in Nashville, this duo has taken the industry by storm. Their voices blend as if they are coming from the same source. They are old school, talent rich and dress up for the occasion.

We love visiting The Selby to get a daily dose of what's happening in other people's lives. They now have taken it one step further and teamed up with ZARA on a video series featuring English bred and NYC based gallerist Lucy Chadwick.

If we were to describe Lucy's world, we would use words like simple, classic, linear and artistic. An artist by trade, her effortless aesthetic is apparent in her NYC apartment, her barn in the woods and pretty much everything she takes part in.

Instead of feeling the need to hurry and finish, her and her partner have chosen to build from the ground up, take time curating and making the right choices for the spot they've chosen to put their roots down. We should all seek to find our place and do the same.

David Amico's FACTORY / PARK SERIES is now up at Ace Gallery in Beverly Hills. This Los Angeles based artist took inspiration from Skid Row and transformed it to create these beautiful abstract paintings. I was inspired to pair up some of his paintings with my favorite fall Seychelles shoes. I can just imagine wearing any of these shoes while visiting the gallery with my friends. The show just started and will be on view through December. This is one art show you should not miss this season!

Tom Ford: Visionaries.

Tom Ford 's new documentary VISIONARIES premiered on the OWN network in October. It documents his rise and continued success in the various verticals he dances between; photography, beauty, eyewear, fashion design and movie-making.

Since his exit from GUCCI in 2004, he has worked to establish his own brand and continues to amaze the masses with his attention to detail, design and overall aesthetic. Simply put, he is and will continue to be a force in the fashion industry for decades to come.

Ode to Loulou.

Today we pay tribute to the original muse of haute couture, Loulou de la Falaise. She died November 5th in her home in France, after a year long battle with cancer. She was 64 and much too young.

Loulou was a fashion pioneer, she challenged the normal standard for women's wear and became the muse and closest confidante of Yves Saint Laurent. She was the first person to inject the Paris collections with bursts of jewelry and solidified the importance of hand crafted baubles as an integral part of each season's collection. She worked for the design house for three decades and will forever be remembered as the inspiration and force behind both YSL and her own label Loulou de la Falaise.

Versace for H&M

The Versace for H&M collection is unveiling itself tonight in New York City with a full fashion presentation and a performance by Prince and Nicki Minaj. We wish we could be there to watch in person but will have to settle for the many pics and blog postings showcasing it's fierceness online tomorrow. One thing you can see, no matter where you are this evening, is the collection in full.

Slated to hit 300 stores nationwide and online November 17th means for the first time in forever Versace = affordable and accessible. Start taking notes on your favorites and plan on setting the alarm early to get a good spot in line. (both locally and virtually) This collection already has amassed enough buzz to rival its predecessor, Lanvin.

Adan Jodorowsky, working under the moniker Adanowsky, is a French/Chilean musician who recently caught our attention and we think you'll love his sound as much as we do. He's the son of visionary filmmaker Jodorowsky, so it's no surprise that talent runs in the family. Says T Magazine, "It wasn’t until he left his native Paris for Chile and translated his lyrics from French to Spanish that he and his career started to go places. Lately, he splits his time between Mexico City, Los Angeles, Paris and anywhere the tour for his melancholy new album, 'Amador,' takes him." Recently Adanowsky found a kindred spirit in Devendra Banhart, and the two collaborated on a song and music video.

Five Days, Five Looks, One Shoe: WHODUNIT?

When I first laid eyes on the WHODUNIT? Heels I knew I had to have them. The glittery gold heels are clearly perfect for a night out or a fantastic holiday party, but I wanted to find ways to incorporate it into my every day wardrobe. I paired it with five different outfits for five different days. Which look is your favorite?

DAY 1 - A simple yet comfortable outfit that I wore to the office. A little gold brightened up the entire look!

DAY 2 - I love playing with textures, so I paired the shoes with a silk jewel toned shirt and textured mini skirt. A little shimmer to help me get through the work day.

DAY 3 - Prep meets glitter!

DAY 4 - The heels acted as the neutral in the oufit when pairing it with a bright colored dress.

DAY 5 - A late night at work is made so much more fun with the contrast between my WHODUNIT? Heels and a fun patterned skirt.

And his newest release, The Rip Tide, has absolutely sent us over the moon. Known for his lyrics which weave imaginary tales of strangers lives, on The Rip Tide Condon took a huge departure, and a huge risk, by turning his focus inward. Marianna Rothen is an amazing photographer we just stumbled upon. So many people in the fashion blogosphere have already given appropriate shout outs and accolades honoring her rare talent and here we are; poised to do the same.

Here's her story, (in a nutshell) as told by Marianna herself.

“I was born in Canada in the 80s and began modeling at 15. I took photographs before I started modeling, so for me, modeling was really a way of finding people to photograph and a way of learning how to take better pictures.

Most of the time I shoot on an old Polaroid SX-70 camera, shooting SX-70 film, 600 film, or Impossible film. I work with filtration. Since Polaroids have become so expensive, I have been experimenting in mixed media—mixing analog and digital together.

My biggest inspirations are European films from the 60s and 70s. That’s what I try to emulate in my work. I want to recreate the warm light of those past times. My models are also actresses, and I like them to have a character or be a caricature of a character, something they can play with. When someone tells me that my photographs look like found pictures from the 1960s, I know they understand my work."

I'm finally home in Los Angeles after my month long travel schedule! I must say that Seychelles saved my feet the last few weeks. The Safari Boots kept my feet dry in rainy Boston, were the most comfortable walking shoes in New York, and kept me warm in windy Chicago. These boots really are perfect for any type of fall weather you might encounter. Plus the amount of compliments you will receive doesn't hurt!

A typical day during my New York trip included playing with Keiko's cat Vester. As you can see from the photos below, we became quite good friends during my stay.

Whitney Deal is one of those amazing ladies who seems capable of doing it all, and doing it wonderfully. We were lucky enough to have her and husband husband Dustin, of Oh! Darling photography, bring their Smilebooth to our Garden Party in NYC earlier this year. Aside from taking beautiful photos, Whitney also makes beautiful clothes. Today she launched a line of wedding, bridesmaid and garden party dresses right over here. They are beautifully simple with delicate details and original touches such as peter pan collars and peekaboo backs. Anyone who is planning their big day can't go wrong with one of Whitney's designs.

Los Angeles has an amazing music scene already but it's always fun to spend a whole day devoted to music. Bands I'm most looking forward to: Broken Social Scene, Mister Heavenly, and Smith Westerns.

New York -
Gagosian Gallery: Richard Serra / September 14 - November 26:
It really is tough to pick out just one thing I'm most excited about in New York. Between Fashion Week, the restaurants, shopping, music and art there is just too much to choose from. However, one of my favorite artists, Richard Serra, will be showing at Gagosian Gallery, presenting two new sculptures. He is known for his fantastical site-specific land sculptures that intersect with the ideas of architecture, urban spaces, and landscapes.

Squat & Gobble:
Although I am going up to San Francisco for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and Treasure Island Music Festival, I must admit I'm most excited to return to my hometown to eat at Squat & Gobble. I've been eating there since I was in high school. They serve a mix of comfort food and crepes, but my favorite menu item is the Upper Haight Omelette.

Chicago -

This is my first real trip to Chicago, so I'll be exploring the city for the first time. I've done most of the tourist attractions in the short 24 hour trip I made in the past. So I'm mostly looking for the good local spots. If anyone has any tips or fun things to check out, please comment below and let me know.

Today I headed over to The Farm of Beverly Hills for a quick lunch with my friend and fellow blogger Kim.
