Born This Way.

We at Seychelles love vintage. After watching the Royal Wedding, one could say Kate Middleton had her sights set on princess icons from the past as well.

One in particular was Grace Kelly, the American-born, Hollywood starlet turned Princess of Monaco in the 1950's.  Do you see the similarities??

Regardless of her inspiration; Kate, Princess Catherine looked amazing, perfectly regal, and like she was born for this eventuality.

Congratulations Wills & Kate!!

Music is...?

Source: google.bg via Mariya on Pinterest

What is music? This is an open-ended question that every person in the world would probably have a different answer to. Music gives us the opportunity to listen, feel and interpret sound. What a concept!

For me, it is everything really. A perfect addition to any space or time and a poetic reminder of life’s struggles and triumphs.

The photo below is so amazing because to us it represents what music would look like if we could actually see the notes and melodies go up into the air and land on everything in its circumference.

What does music mean to you?

What Would Kate Wear?

We are really excited about the upcoming royal nuptials and figured if we were able to dress Kate in Seychelles on her big day, which ones would be appropriate??

Part of the draw of this union is it's a modern fairytale and Kate is an every day girl who definitely will bring a new perspective to the monarchy.

Cheers to a great party on Friday. All hail Seychelles.

For Your Love

Hannah at The Loved One never ceases to blow us away with her talent and vision. We were so excited when we heard she was making the very first video lookbook for The Loved One, and of course it is every bit as adorable as we expected it to be. (look for a special cameo by some amazing Seychelles spring shoes!)

Fridays featured blog: The Snail and the Cyclops

We just love The Snail and the Cyclops and her amazing vintage finds and adorable hat collection!  Just browsing her dreamy photos gets us excited for warm weather and springtime. Her etsy shop and tumblr are worth taking a looksie at too!

A Cut Above.

We discovered these amazing paper cut art pieces and felt compelled to share.

Who is Elsa Mora? She tells her story best on her personal blog Elsita. Her mantra is simple, let your imagination wander.

If you fall in love, (like we did) shop her Etsy store where she sells her wares and shows off not only these paper cut projects but also jewelry, drawings, paintings and ceramics.

la musique!

We were lucky enough to stumble upon local LA band He's My Brother She's My Sister at the Echo when they were opening for another band we love, Everest. Such amazing energy! Such flawless style! And a live tap dancer! This was definitely one of the most engaging and fun live shows we've seen in a long time. Highly recommend taking a listen and if you live in LA or are lucky enough to catch them live, don't miss it!

scenes from Mildred Pierce

We are totally captivated by HBO's mini-series remake of the 1945 Joan Crawford film Mildred Pierce. Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood are phenomenal. The melodrama, the costumes, the art direction, the 1940s glamour!

In the spirit of the era, strap on a pair of retro-inspired mid-heels and get into character. Are you the devoted and self-sufficient Mildred, or she-devil Veda?

À la mode: Seychelles look of the week

This week's look is brought to you by the lovely stylist, Jess, over at Modcloth!  She styled up Point of No Return, and put together an outfit perfect for when you're feeling utlra-girly!  We agree with Jess and think, "that the sheerness of the top looks great when paired with the soft, almost chevron-style, stripe of the skirt."
See all the pieces from Jess' outfit over at Chictopia.com!

Sketches by Susan Suy from Spain.

Found yet another amazing illustrator in Susan Suy. She lives in Barcelona with her family and continues to hone her amazing talents on canvas.

Her inspirations come from beautiful women, fashion and the art of drawing. You can own one or many of her amazing pieces by shopping her online Etsy shoppe.

I definitely see a couple of these prints in my future. LOVE.

Je T'aime la musique

We are absolutely adoring French songstress Keren Ann. Her angelic voice on this acoustic version of "All The Beautiful Girls" has us melancholy and nostalgic for the era of Beat poetry and Andy Warhol's Chelsea girls.

la femme du jour

Mia Farrow gave a stellar performance as femme fatale Daisy Buchanan in the 1974 film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's jazz era classic The Great Gatsby. We'd love to channel her polished, romantic look for a weekend in the Hamptons this spring. A girl can dream, can't she?

Extra Fine Art.

(Logo and paintings by Michelle Armas)
Love these amazing paintings by Atlanta artist Michelle Armas. She definitely has a thing for color.

I definitely was in a mood for a splash or two on this weird weather day in Los Angeles. Enjoy and shop her entire catalog of items here.

essential reads, beautifully designed

Wow. Take a gander at the beautiful cover designs for the new collection of Penguin Essentials. The folks at Penguin gathered what they consider the most important reads of the twentieth century. When they were published, they changed the way we thought about life and literature, and they still resonate today. We wouldn't mind having these beautifully designed books on our bookshelf.
